Job Description: Pump Maintenance & Installation Engineer

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Contract: Full-time, with participation in an on-call rota (emergency call-outs once every four weeks)

Overview

Due to continued growth and expansion, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Pump Maintenance & Installation Engineer to join our established technical team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer— or a capable professional looking to advance their career—within a progressive and supportive company environment.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering high-quality service, maintenance, installation, and commissioning of pumping systems across domestic, commercial, and industrial settings. This role includes participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota, typically 1 week in 4.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, and repair a wide range of domestic, commercial, and industrial pumping systems, including associated mechanical, electrical, and control components.
  • Diagnose faults, conduct investigations, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Carry out installation, commissioning, and replacement of pumps, booster sets, pressurisation units, control panels, and related equipment.
  • Produce accurate service reports, commissioning documentation, and job sheets.
  • Liaise professionally with clients to provide updates, explain findings, and advise on recommended actions.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, and stock levels, including monthly inventory checks.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental procedures and industry best practice.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience working with pumping systems, including installation, service, and fault diagnosis.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical principles (electrically competent).
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
  • conduct dynamic risks assessments 
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a methodical and proactive approach to work.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Essential Qualifications & Certifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing & Heating, or a related discipline.
  • CSCS/ECS Card.
  • Confined Space Entry Certification (Medium Risk).
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) or willingness to achieve this qualification.

Desirable Qualifications & Training

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent electrical competence certification.
  • Pump-specific OEM training (e.g., Grundfos, Lowara, Wilo, Xylem).
  • City & Guilds 2377 – Electrical Equipment Inspection & Testing (PAT).
  • PASMA / IPAF for working at height.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • Water Hygiene (EUSR/Blue Card) – beneficial for water industry or building services applications.
  • Experience with BMS and control panel fault-finding.
  • Knowledge of legionella control, closed systems, and water treatment equipment (advantageous for water hygiene/treatment-related companies).
